Biography: Prof. Dr. Faisal Riaz
Prof. Dr. Faisal Riaz is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST). He holds a Ph.D. in Affective Computing Inspired Autonomous Vehicles from Iqra University, Islamabad, Pakistan. Dr. Riaz leads the Control, Automotive, and Robotics (CAR) lab at MUST, where he spearheads pioneering research in the field of autonomous vehicles.
Academic and Research Contributions:
Dr. Riaz's expertise lies in the design and development of various modules for self-driving vehicles, including perception, localization, and motion planning. His groundbreaking work includes the invention of the world’s first human factor inspired autonomous vehicle, EMO. This innovative vehicle integrates cognitive and emotional cues to enhance decision-making processes.
Industry and Innovation:
Dr. Riaz has successfully secured significant funding (14.70 million PKR) to support his research endeavors. He has been instrumental in developing EyeData, a startup that provides high-quality environmental data for the automotive industry in Pakistan. EyeData’s perception module utilizes advanced deep learning techniques to improve object detection performance, ensuring the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles.

EMO 3.0 integrates features such as object and event detection, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, and emotions-inspired collision avoidance.

Automaton: A human-inspired autonomous industrial loader developed by the CAR lab. This level 4 autonomous loader is designed for freight transportation and is equipped with autopilot, sonars, and cameras. It can carry up to 250 kg and operates on a 48v power source.
